What you can expect
At Magpie Basketball AZ, Development Comes First!
Our top priority is player learning and development, not just winning. We create a safe, challenging, and fun environment where players focus on improving their skills and understanding the game before focusing on outcomes. Here’s what you can expect:
-
5+ Hours of Training Sessions Per Week (Minimum): Consistent, focused sessions designed to build skills and ensure steady progress.
-
Professional Coaching: Led by passionate, experienced coaches dedicated to helping players of all levels grow and succeed.
-
Safe and Supportive Environment: A space where players are encouraged to challenge themselves, improve, and develop in a positive atmosphere.
A Development-Focused Approach
We build players using three key pillars:
-
Fitness: Develop the endurance and agility to stay sharp on the court. Sessions will focus on improving cardio, quick transitions, and explosive speed essential for basketball.
-
Technical Fundamentals: Master essential skills like ball handling, shooting, passing, and footwork to build a strong foundation.
-
Tactical Understanding: Learn how to read the game, make smart decisions, and apply strategies during games and competitive situations.
While winning is important, our focus is always on learning first. We believe that as players develop their skills and basketball IQ, success will follow naturally. Each session is designed with specific practice and game-day goals, emphasizing growth over results. These tactical and technical aims ensure players not only improve their individual performance but also their understanding of the game, preparing them for success in leagues and tournaments.

-
Tournament Fundraising:
-
Each team participates in 9 tournaments per season (entry fees average $500 per tournament).
-
Total cost per team, per season = $4,500.
-
Our goal is to raise enough funds to cover these tournament expenses entirely.
-
-
Future Team Fundraising:
-
After covering the current season’s costs, we’ll focus on fundraising for the next season.
-
The ultimate goal: By season two, no player pays anything out of pocket.
-

This team-wide effort helps provide opportunities for all current and future players to play basketball for free.
